52 Card Scopa
February 8th, 2010As you can probably gather from reading the posts on this blog, we are big fans of the Italian card game Scopa. Traditionally Scopa is played with a 40 card deck of Italian cards, which differ from the French packs used for games like poker in that the suits are different, there are no 8, 9 or 10 and a knight on horseback is used instead of a queen. Other than that though the decks are the same; each has aces, each has 3 royals per suit and each had 4 suits. As a consequence it is very possible to use a 52 card deck to play Scopa by stripping out the 8, 9 and 10 and using diamonds as coins. But as we all know the rules of card games quickly get altered, with new variations of the game being tried out and extra rules being added to increase excitement and add some diversity. So we came up with a game which uses the rules of Scopa as its foundation, but adds many extra dimensions and concepts to the game that will bring it to life. Read the rest of this entry »
